How do you compute the 5 star ratings?

The ratings are based on a weighted average of multiple reviews collected from articles published online. Each review that included a rating is added together and averaged to give a total out of 5 stars. Publications that do not publish ratings are listed but do not form part of our 5 star rating as we do not believe in "thumb-sucking" a number to assign to the review.

Why a weighted average?

Some critics and/or publications have more prestige and respect in their industry than others, we believe this is often reflected in the traffic, viewership and "reach" of the publication.

In addition, some critics and/or publications consistently write/publish higher quality reviews than others (more detailed, more insightful and more articulate).

To reflect these factors, we assign "weights" to each publication or critic based on several indicators such as Alexa rank, reach and reputation, as-well-as Google PageRank and review/publication quality, thus making review scores from more reputable sources carry more "weight" in the final results.

Why another aggregator?

We distinguish ourselves by being the largest aggregator of international publications. Where most aggregators feature reviews written in English from the USA & UK almost exclusively, we collect reviews from all over the world written in any language! Of course the USA still comprises the majority of reviews we feature (63%), but that doesn't stop foreign websites such as many based in Europe and Asia from being noteworthy, and in many cases with a more significant readership than many based in the USA.

We pride ourselves on the quality and diversification of the collected reviews, as each review has been meticulously loaded by hand.
